A Trip to Travelers Rest.

This past Friday I went with a few of the Girl Scouts on a trip to Travelers Rest. A Historical Home in Nashville. Another mom "Holly"went a long and we spent the night in what they called a barn ( Not quite that bad). It was fun! We all got to tour the historical home and grounds with a fellow dressed to suit the historical time. The man was very good at telling all the girls about the old days and all the famous people who came through travelers rest many many centuries ago. The girls were very intrigued by the home and Ashley was very inquisitive. We also had fun at a campfire roasting marshmallows and when it started to rain we all rushed to a small weaving house where it was dark and rather spooky. Here the girls all sat wide eyed while they were told ghost stories by a young fellow who was very good at his story telling. I could tell he enjoyed his job. We later enjoyed learning about the old crafts that the folks did all those centuries ago and we got to make some ourselves. Even myself and the other moms all made the fun crafts. We all enjoyed learning the dance they would have done back in the time and had a late night tour of the grounds. Lights were out by 11:30. The part I had trouble with was sleeping on my blanket on the hard cement floor. I was tossing all night! Morning came fast and we were up for a tasty breakfast then off to watch the girls on a scavenger hunt. By 9:00 we were heading home. I must say this was a fantastic trip!! The girls said they had a fantastic time and I am sure they learned a lot about history. Especially Nashvilles part in the civil war. They learned how lucky they are today compared to how kids lived back in those days. I have to admit that Holly and I had as much fun as the girls:o)
