My daughter's passion

I was reading some posts on Facebook today. One of the scrappers I am friends with on the site, she mentioned how grateful her kids were that she had always encouraged them to read.
My daughter Ashley loves to read too. My parents, my sister Robin, Tim and I always read to her from the time she was a baby up until she started reading to herself. I remember when she said to me she wanted to read to  herself. That moment was bittersweet for me, because I was never a big reader as a child or even as an adult. Taking the time to read  to her was new and wonderful for me.I enjoyed when she was very very little reading to her and making my voice change for the characters. Ashley loved that too. Her daddy would read to her as well. Many nights we took turns ,Ashley sometimes wanted me to read more because I was so dramatic in reading to her. That made me feel special. But, I still encouraged her dad to read allot too. It did get old reading certain books over and over. As Ashley grew a little older up around 9 years old, reading became as exciting for me! We were getting into books like Stuart Little, The trumpet Swan ,Charlotte's Web and many fun books she had myself or Grandma get at book fairs. I also loved as she got into the books like Encyclopedia Brown,Judy Mood and Mysteries. Excitement grew as Ashley got into 5th grade. She was now able to read bigger books like Harry Potter on her own,but I continued to choose books we could read together. I encouraged her from an earlier age to read a page to me and I'd read the next. When we got to the bigger books we would go by chapters. I LOVED the mystical books! I was so encouraged to read just by reading to Ashley. I sure do miss those days. Maybe we should start the reading together back up. More for myself than Ashley! She has been wanting me to read the "Twilight" series. I think the only way I could read that book, is if she read with me.
PICTURE OF THE DAY

I am more of a magazine reader. But now and then I try to read a book :)

Ashley got into Audios for a short while. Mostly in the van It was a fad for her because she really enjoyed reading a book. Now Ashley has the Ipad and she buys many books to read on that. She does not seem interested in audios. Although Ashley can buy on the Ipad ,she once told me there are some books you must have. Books you need in hard cover so to hold in your hands to read. So we still buy books. Her Aunt gave her books for Christmas and even her boyfriend gave her a hardback Christmas book. I am so glad we started Ashley out and kept the pressure on when she slacked ,this all worked perfectly to make her a great reader and she even has begun to write. Reading and writing seems to be Ashley's biggest passion. It will be interesting to see where this passion carries her in life.
