Pea Pickin' memories

My cousin posted this and brought back some wonderful memories. Memories of going to visit my grandparents in Alabama when I was a child. We would go for our vacation and though we always played hard and had some great imagination, we also did our fair share of picking and shelling peas, beans and on occasion corn. Back then when I was shelling peas and getting my nails all green and sore from it I did not realize how great those memories would be. I can still feel the feeling in my nails, I can still remember picking through the bowl and washing the peas, I can still smell that smell when Granny had peas and cream corn from the fields cooking with a chunk of ham to flavor the peas and greens. Granny's homemade biscuits or cornbread and always some kind of big fattening cake. Either a lane cake or German chocolate. My dads two favorites. Those long hot days seemed to last forever when your a kid. The nights were pitch black and the days were dusty and hot. Some were full of my dad and grandfather watching football and fussing at the TV as I sat on the couch bored from it all. Of course now those days seem to be some of my best memories! Those days blew by so fast and are etched in my mind and heart forever. Some of the best memories. So I say a "ROLLTIDE" to my wonderful grandparents who gave me some great times. They probably did not know how much so. I have :)
